Nat Sch 800m - Nice Guys Finish Last

madan and Nab had a lousy start. everyone else seemed to react faster than them. they were pushed to the back by the ACJC guys on their left. madan was stunned by the elbowing. wat to do, they react so slowly. from the back of the pack, he went to cut in to the front from the inside lane. so crowded, so much pushing. he even stepped once onto the semi-d. he managed to get to the front of the pack by end of the first 100m.
Nab wasn't as lucky. he was really the last guy. he had to go outside on the curve and come back into the front. i dun really noe wat else happened at tt point coz he was already behind madan.
SK had a good start, coz after first 100m, he was comfortably leading. madan was right behind him at this point. he was quite happy he made it, though he was still recovering from the shock at the start. followed SK.
think there were a couple of times his hand accidentally hit SK's spikes. his legs swinging up, and madan being shorter than him, hit madan's swinging arms. luckily SK din stumble much. wud have felt very bad. happened once on the backstrait and once on the 2nd straight.
he wanted to finish the 1st 400m in front of SK. so he pushed ahead of him 10-20m before the 400m. they hit 400m at 57s. 3rd and 4th guys, 58s. ppl told me later tt Nab was 4th after his ordeal at the start and stuck there for most of the race.
madan pushed a little at 400m, coz he knew as he tires, he would slow. to maintain the same pace, must put in more effort.
maintain till 300m mark. push. more this time. reach 200m. start whacking. ppl said he was extending the gap a bit between 300m and 100m. he actually thought he could win this race if he kept it up. how stupid..here comes SK. clap clap clap clap. here comes Nab. clap clap clap clap. here they come to win madan..here they come to win the big race..here they come to win the fight..
but SK started whacking at 100m. by this time, madan was starting to die. SK went in front with about 50m to go. madan tried to stay with him. but wen Nab caught up also, he gave up. he couldn't push any longer. luckily finish line wasn't too far away. SK finished with timing of 1:59.19. Nab 2nd with 1:59.50. and madan was the loser with 2:00.34. didn't even break 2min. and the 4th guy wasn't tt far off with 2:01.65.

mr Q:
could have done more striding, instead of tucking in vest nicely, arranging shoes in basket.
strategy was good. hit 400 at 57...
don't be too disappointed.
full marks for courage!

Nab was quite sad after the race, crying, while madan could not hide his disappointment even in tt lactic acid-filled state of his.

this yr's race was super fast.
1:59
1:59
2:00
2:01
2:01
2:02
2:02
2:07

the fastest for B div, 2:06, would just barely get an 8th placing in the A div. in my sec 4 yr, 5th was already 2:01. tt was madan. C div worse. winning time of 2:11. madan got a bronze with tt timing in sec 2. even the batches before his weren't this fast. if he had been born a little earlier or later, he would have been something to talk about. now, he's just an escort to the champions.

the current standard of singapore athlete is pathetic. If you want to be best you should be going after timing rather than thinking that you could won easily against 1-2 yrs ur junior/senior. To go by position there's no way one will ever be great.
